Municipal Court
Like many other incorporated cities in Oregon, Tillamook has a municipal court, as authorized by charter and state law. In Oregon, municipal courts are local courts outside the state-funded court system. The Municipal Court is the judicial branch of the City.
The Municipal Court primarily hears traffic violations and offenses; violations of city codes and ordinances, including animal, high grass, and trash nuisances; vehicle impoundments and forfeitures; and parking and pedestrian violations.
Presiding over the Municipal Court is Timothy Dolan, a local attorney who oversees the court through an annual contract with the city. Court convenes according to the following schedule:
Second Wednesday and fourth Wednesday of each month
- Traffic Citations 9 a.m.
- Parking Citations 11 a.m.
- On the second Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m., a special session is held to assist members of the Hispanic community. During these sessions, an interpreter is present to translate proceedings.
These court sessions are held for pleadings only. For those individuals who wish to plead not guilty to an offense, they may do so and request a trial. The trial date will be set by the judge. One day each month most often a Friday is usually reserved for trials. Trial dates vary. For information, contact the Municipal Court clerk in City Hall.
