Tillamook Police Department
The City of Tillamook is served by 13 officers and staff who are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. From their headquarters at Third and Madrona, the department operates 6 patrol and service vehicles.
Tillamook Police Department is responsible for enforcing all city laws and ordinances within the Tillamook city limits. In addition, police department personnel work with the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Department, the 9-1-1 Center and other first-responders in beneficial mutual aid relationships.
School Resource Officer
An important member of the Tillamook Police Department is the School Resource Officer. Through this program, an officer becomes a part of the school community. His or her role is to provide young people additional support as counselor, teacher and mentor. Officers develop relationships of trust with the students and are available to help and support them during difficult or confusing times. Officers also provide a valuable element of security for students and staff.
School Resource Officers are assigned to all of the seven schools in Tillamook School District 9: Tillamook High School, Tillamook Junior High School, Liberty Elementary, East Elementary, South Prairie Elementary, TOPS Alternative School at the Wilson School building and Trask River High School.
For more information, contact School Resource Officer Nick Troxel at (503) 842-2522.
Tillamook Police Cadet Program
The Tillamook Police Department operates a youth Cadet Program through Boy Scouts of America.
This program is modeled after Learning for Life and Explorers and accepts young people, ages 8 to 20.
Cadets participate in regular training meetings, community support programs and other life-experience activities. As part of their activities, they often direct traffic, control parking and assist spectators at Tillamook events. This is how they earn money to fund the program. Each year, they also travel to Monterey, Calif., where they work at major public events, such as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am Golf Tournament.
Cadets also raise funds each year for Special Olympics and assist with other fund raising and community programs.
Approximately 40 youth are involved in the Cadet Program. They volunteer approximately 4,000 hours of service annually.
For information about the Cadet Program, contact Police Chief Terry Wright at the Police Department, (503) 842-2522.
