Police Cadet Program
The Tillamook Police Department operates a youth Cadet Program through Boy Scouts of America.
This program is modeled after Learning for Life and Explorers and accepts young people, ages 8 to 20.
Cadets
participate in regular training meetings, community support programs
and other life-experience activities. As part of their activities, they
often direct traffic, control parking and assist spectators at
Tillamook events. This is how they earn money to fund the program. Each
year, they also travel to Monterey, Calif., where they work at major
public events, such as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am Golf Tournament.
Cadets also raise funds each year for Special Olympics and assist with other fund raising and community programs.
Approximately 40 youth are involved in the Cadet Program. They volunteer approximately 4,000 hours of service annually.
For information about the Cadet Program, contact Police Chief Terry Wright at the Police Department, (503) 842-2522.
