City Council Information
Under the Tillamook City Charter, the city government is led the Mayor and six City Councilors, who together form the City Council. A quorum of at least four council members is required to conduct city business. The six council seats are filled by election to four-year terms and represent the ward in which the elector resides.
Elected at large for a four-year term is the mayor, whose duties include:
- Presiding over City Council meetings.
- Preserving order.
- Enforcing council rules. (Council Rules - ORD 1256A)
- Determining the order of business.
- Voting only in the case of a tie-vote.
At the first meeting of each year, the council elects a Council President from among its members. The Council President will preside over meetings in the absence or incapacity of the mayor, however they will retain their vote as a council member, even while acting as mayor.
The City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month at City Hall. In the event of a holiday, the meeting shall take place the following day or on a day agreed upon by the Council. A special meeting of the Council may be properly called by giving 24 hours' advance notice.
